| Our Program
The course which gives students the opportunity to experience teaching is called Teacher Education. It is the final course in the teacher education program of study under the Public and Human Services Career Pathway.
This course addresses standards for teacher education in the areas of teaching strategies, lesson plans, history of education, school governance, realities of the teaching profession, et al.
Students create and implement their own standards-based lessons. They learn a variety of teaching theories and philosophies and go on to create a teaching portfolio which includes standards-based lessons.
Basically, Teacher Education is an in-depth teaching/learning experience where high school students can truly see if becoming a teacher is a realistic career option for them. The course gives them knowledge and a basis for determining if teaching is a fitting career. For non-future-teachers, the course gives them the opportunity to experience the joys of teaching and perhaps become better parents and advocates for education in the future.
